DESCRIPTION: France, an unusual and amusing figural mantel clock, the gilt bronze case with rectangular base on owl form feet, supporting a Gothic ruin with fountain in a rustic landscape, the scene transformed at the observer's will by the placement of the removable, squatting female figure, taking a moment to relieve herself, case back with sheet brass enclosure now with Arabic numeral metal dial and 30 hour timepiece movement
CONDITION: case dirty, lacking gilding, minor tarnish and staining, dial and movement replaced, lower movement and glass rod original and functional, and presenting a convincing stream when running. An identical timepiece was included in Antiquorum's Art of Horology in France sale, lot 221, Geneva, November 14, 1993, which retains its original, Roman numeral gilt dial, and time only movement.
